Special Education Teacher - Bessemer, Alabama

Make an impact supporting students as a contract Special Education Teacher (Exceptional Education/Ex Ed Teacher) for the upcoming school year. You’ll work onsite in a district prioritizing elementary self-contained classrooms while also supporting secondary needs. This is your chance to make a difference in classrooms of no more than 10 students—often with manageable group sizes between 4-6, depending on disability and IQ level.

Qualifications:

• Valid SPED (Special Education) Licensure for Alabama (verify at https://tcert.alsde.edu/Portal/Public/Pages/SearchCerts.aspx)
• For elementary positions, K-6 endorsement required; secondary roles require 6-12
• Willingness to work onsite
• Experience or passion for self-contained settings preferred
• Strong collaboration, classroom management, and communication skills

Responsibilities:

• Deliver targeted exceptional education instruction focused primarily on elementary self-contained classrooms
• Employ individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapt lessons for diverse student needs
• Foster an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment
• Collaborate with staff, parents, and specialists to best support each student
• Attend and contribute to IEP meetings and professional development as needed

Key Details:

• Contract role running from August 6, 2026 to May 27, 2027
• Full-time hours: 37.5 per week
• Multiple openings for both elementary and high school levels (with elementary needs prioritized)
• Onsite interviews required at designated location in Birmingham
