Bring your expertise in special education to a dedicated middle school intensive communications classroom supporting students with autism and intellectual disabilities. This full-time contract opportunity runs from August 14 through November 1. You'll teach a group of nine students following a dynamic, functional life skills curriculum—complete with hands-on daily skills, regular field trips, and a classroom environment designed to foster independence.

You'll lead the classroom in partnership with two experienced paraprofessionals. The class utilizes Unique Learning System as a key curriculum component and emphasizes real-world skills—from cooking in a mini-kitchen to practicing laundry routines. Experience supporting students with autism or in functional skills programs is highly valued and will help you thrive in this setting.

Key qualifications:

  • Current LBS1 and PEL (Professional Educator License) are required. Please attach verification (a screenshot added as a blank page to your resume).
  • Extensive understanding of autism and intellectual disabilities, with preference for candidates who have worked in intensive or functional programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs, as well as collaborating with families and support staff.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to accommodate a range of communication and social-emotional needs.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction based on the Unique Learning System and functional curriculum.
  • Oversee and support daily classroom routines, focusing on independence and life skills.
  • Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals for a cohesive classroom community.
  • Organize field trips and real-life learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.

If you're committed to guiding students on their journey to independence and enjoy an interactive, hands-on teaching environment, this could be the perfect fit for your expertise. Submit your application today and make a meaningful impact this school year!

Compensation for this position ranges from $33.05 to $53.05. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
