As a Special Education Teacher within an alternative school environment, you’ll have the opportunity to provide individualized support to students in an Emotional Disabilities (ED) classroom, helping them build skills and confidence for the future.
Your responsibilities will center on delivering specialized instruction consistent with students’ IEP goals and implementing targeted behavior intervention plans. You’ll foster a structured, therapeutic classroom atmosphere, applying de-escalation strategies and encouraging social-emotional learning each day. Collaboration comes naturally in this role, as you’ll work in partnership with behavioral specialists, administrators, and a dedicated support team. Your attention to detail will be utilized as you maintain accurate documentation and actively contribute to IEP meetings, ensuring every student’s needs are met and voices are heard.
Ideal candidates bring the following qualifications and experience:
- Valid South Carolina Special Education certification (or eligibility to obtain)
- Prior work supporting students with emotional disabilities, or in behavioral or alternative education settings, is highly desirable
- Strong classroom management and crisis intervention skills
- Ability to remain composed, steady, and focused on student growth in high-need situations
