Make a significant impact in the lives of middle school students by stepping into one of two immediate openings for special education teachers. These full-time contract roles run throughout the 26/27 school year, with a consistent Monday–Friday schedule (35–37.5 hours per week). Both positions are located at a vibrant middle school near Bridgeport, CT, and cater to students who thrive on individualized support and encouragement.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid Connecticut special education certification, or eligibility for certification is required for both roles
  • Experience or comfort teaching grades 6–8
  • For one position: Background in English Language Arts, Math, and specialized reading (SPIRE, WILSON, OG, or equivalent reading intervention training strongly desired)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with teachers, families, and support staff
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs
  • Provide instruction in reading, ELA, and math in either a specialized or resource-like setting
  • One role focuses on teaching 6th grade ELA, reading intervention, and 6th grade math; the other supports grades 6–8 with academic assistance and executive functioning goals
  • Monitor student progress and adapt strategies to promote academic and social growth
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, counselors, and related services staff
  • Communicate with families about student progress and strategies for continued development
