Special Education Teacher - Burkeville, Virginia

This contract position offers the flexibility of working until a total of 300 service hours are completed and is located near Burkeville, VA. The teaching environment will be in the student’s home, supporting a non-verbal 1st grader who requires a skilled and compassionate educator. The possibility of a virtual/remote structure is under consideration, creating potential for even greater flexibility.

Qualifications:

• Valid Special Education Adapted Curriculum K-12th license is required
• Previous experience working with students with significant needs, ideally in home or individualized settings
• Knowledge and application of best practices for non-verbal students
• Comfortable supporting students who may exhibit self-injurious behaviors
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with families and support staff
• Ability to design and implement individualized, engaging academic and functional activities

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct, individualized special education instruction to one student, following compensatory education guidelines
• Adapt curriculum and behavioral strategies to address the unique strengths and challenges of a non-verbal child
• Maintain diligent documentation of hours, progress, and interventions as required
• Partner with the student’s family and relevant professionals to ensure a holistic, supportive educational experience
• Employ evidence-based methods for managing and reducing self-injurious behaviors
• Adjust teaching methods and materials based on ongoing assessment of student’s progress
