A contract Special Education Teacher opportunity is available nearby Charleston, SC, supporting a self-contained, mild-to-moderate classroom environment. This role provides the chance to engage directly with students in grades 3-6 (with possible involvement across grades K-8), fostering growth and success in a dedicated, supportive environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading instruction for nine students with mild-to-moderate needs in a self-contained classroom
  • Collaborating daily with four dedicated classroom aides and full-time ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) support to optimize learning strategies
  • Crafting and delivering individualized lesson plans tailored to each student's unique IEP goals and abilities
  • Fostering a positive, nurturing atmosphere where students can achieve academic and social-emotional milestones
  • Communicating routinely with families, specialists, and school staff to ensure all student needs are met
  • Implementing behavior management and proactive intervention plans as necessary

Qualifications and desired experience:

  • Valid Special Education teaching certification
  • Previous experience working with elementary or middle school populations, ideally in a self-contained setting
  • Strong skills in differentiation, classroom management, and collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team
  • An empathetic, patient, and resourceful approach to supporting diverse learners
  • Familiarity with IEP development and ongoing progress monitoring documentation
