A Washington State program is seeking a School Psychologist to support students within a maximum-security juvenile detention facility. This role offers a rare opportunity to work with a highly vulnerable population in a structured, well-supported environment that prioritizes safety, professionalism, and student well-being.
The psychologist will step into a role previously held long-term by a provider who transitioned into a permanent position, reflecting the sustainability and support of this setting.
Clinical & Counseling Focus
Although assessment responsibilities remain part of the position, this role is primarily counseling-driven. Students in this program have experienced extensive trauma, instability, and disrupted support systems. Many are justice-involved youth who require a psychologist with a calm, grounded, and relational approach.

Core Responsibilities

Conduct required psychoeducational assessments onsite

Provide individual and group counseling services

Complete evaluation reports remotely

Support IEP development and attend meetings as needed

Collaborate with instructional staff, mental health teams, and facility personnel

Contribute to a supportive, student-centered therapeutic environment
Qualifications

Washington State School Psychologist certification or eligibility

Counseling experience strongly preferred

Trauma-informed training or experience highly desired

Ability to work effectively in a secure, structured setting

Experience with alternative education, juvenile justice, or high-needs populations is a plus
