Special Education Teacher - Chicago, IL

Embark on a rewarding contract role supporting high school students as a Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Located near Chicago, this full-time position runs Monday through Friday from 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM, with lunch and planning periods included, totaling 37.5 hours per week. You’ll be making an immediate impact by starting as soon as possible.

You’ll work with a projected caseload of 20-30 students (with trends indicating numbers may decrease over the year), all of whom have mild to moderate learning disabilities or autism spectrum disorder. The school offers flexibility, supporting either a co-teaching or self-contained classroom model, depending on your preference. This environment lets you shape your experience and contribute where you thrive.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• LBS1 certification to cover grades 9-12 is required
• Proven ability to write and manage IEPs
• Experience working with students with learning disabilities and ASD (mild to moderate)
• High school teaching background and bilingual skills are preferred, though not required
• Adaptability and collaboration skills, whether co-teaching or managing your own classroom

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and monitor effective IEPs for each student
• Deliver engaging instruction in a supportive classroom atmosphere
• Partner with general education teachers, staff, and families for holistic student support
• Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet individual student needs and learning styles
