Make a difference as a full-time Special Education Teacher supporting a small group of 1st–3rd grade students in a classroom designed for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), most of whom are nonverbal. This contract opportunity offers a consistent Monday–Friday schedule (8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with an early 2:00 p.m. dismissal on Fridays). With a seven-student caseload and a highly supportive team of teacher assistants, you’ll provide meaningful instruction and individualized support. Travel professionals are eligible for unique housing options: the school maintains a house/apartment specifically for travel staff.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teaching certification
- Experience working in elementary or primary grades preferred
- Prior background with nonverbal or ASD student populations highly beneficial
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with paraprofessionals and support staff
- Ability to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment tailored to a range of abilities
- Commitment to fostering growth and independence in students
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver individualized instruction and group learning activities
- Adapt curriculum and teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students
- Collaborate with teacher assistants and related service providers to implement best instructional practices
- Monitor and track student progress, write reports, and participate in IEP processes
- Provide structure and positive behavioral support within a multi-mixed classroom
- Engage professionally with families and school staff
