Make a difference in the lives of students by supporting learning and development in a specialized environment for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract position offers opportunities at both the middle and high school levels, working in a facility dedicated to serving students with significant cognitive and behavioral needs, including level 3 autism. With small class sizes (8:1:3 ratio) across self-contained classrooms, you will play a critical role in advancing individualized education plans (IEPs) for learners who primarily use alternative communication methods and are non-verbal.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid New York State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities) or in progress toward certification
  • Recent graduates with a master's degree or candidates with an out-of-state license eligible for transfer are encouraged to apply
  • Background supporting students with level 3 autism, severe behavioral challenges, or those utilizing alternative communication methods or medical supports is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in adapting curriculum and conducting alternative assessments is a strong plus

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive special education instruction within a self-contained classroom setting
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals tailored to individual student needs
  • Employ evidence-based strategies and modifications to meet a range of learning, communication, and behavioral needs
  • Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families to support holistic student success
  • Manage paperwork and maintain compliance, with up to 40 hours per week approved for extended planning, paperwork, and IEP preparation outside assigned classroom hours

This role provides an impactful and supportive environment, Monday through Friday from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm, aligning with a July 2026 to June 2027 academic calendar. Compensation is competitive, with hourly rates from $35 to $50 depending on experience and credentials.
