Step into a dynamic and rewarding contract opportunity as a Special Education Teacher for the upcoming school year. You’ll play a vital role supporting students in grades K-4, handling a diverse caseload of learners with learning disabilities, other health impairments, and those on the autism spectrum. This position will cover a maternity leave from August 21st through early January, coinciding with the start of classes on August 26th.

You will work a full-time, 37.5 hour-per-week schedule from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, managing a caseload averaging 12 students, though it may range from 10-15. The role is ideal for educators who value a structured, supportive environment, and prior experience utilizing Orton-Gillingham or Wilson reading programs is highly preferred.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education (appropriate for grades K-4)
  • Experience supporting students with a variety of disabilities, including LD, OHI, and those on the autism spectrum
  • Practical knowledge of structured teaching methodologies such as Orton-Gillingham or Wilson
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with staff and families
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Deliver targeted instruction to small groups and individual students
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, and families
  • Maintain detailed records of student progress in line with state and federal guidelines
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development as needed
  • Utilize a daily 40-minute prep/planning period to optimize instructional effectiveness
