A rewarding contract opportunity is available for an experienced Special Education Teacher to serve two elementary schools: one in Jericho and another just under 20 miles away. Covering maternity leave from August 21st through May 31st, this full-time position (37.5 hours per week, 7:30 am – 3:30 pm) offers the chance to make a positive difference for students in grades K-4.

Your role will involve collaborating with both teams, providing specialized instruction to caseloads averaging 12 students (between 10-15), with a diverse mix of learning disabilities, other health impairments, and students on the autism spectrum. Your commitment will ensure services remain consistent at both schools for the duration of the assignment.

Qualifications & Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education (with current certification)
  • Strong knowledge of K-4 curriculum and special education best practices
  • Experience adapting instruction for a variety of learning needs, including LD, OHI, and Autism
  • Structured learning training or experience highly preferred (Orton Gillingham, Wilson, or similar approaches)
  • A commitment to individualized, student-centered education
  • Flexibility to travel between two schools (18.5 miles apart)
  • Enthusiastic team player comfortable supporting peers and collaborating with families

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement IEPs for students on your caseload
  • Provide direct instruction, classroom support, and resource services as needed
  • Consult with classroom teachers and related service providers
  • Track progress and maintain all required documentation
  • Participate in IEP meetings and professional development
  • Utilize a 40-minute daily prep/planning period
