Step into a rewarding contract position supporting students with special needs for the 2026-2027 school year. This opportunity focuses on teaching science to approximately 40-50 students in grades 6-12, with a schedule of 8 AM – 4 PM, Monday through Friday. The setting provides a collaborative environment, offering the chance to discuss classroom models and support structures during the interview process.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Connecticut Department of Education License with 165 Special Education Endorsement
  • At least 2 years of recent experience teaching in a school setting
  • Proven experience developing, implementing, and tracking Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Comfortable actively participating in IEP meetings and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Science content knowledge for middle and high school levels is a plus
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational environment

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver science instruction tailored to individual student needs in grades 6-12
  • Develop, monitor, and update IEPs in collaboration with parents, administrators, and support staff
  • Attend and contribute to IEP meetings and multidisciplinary planning sessions
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages academic growth and confidence
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and classroom technologies to differentiate learning
  • Track progress, complete required documentation, and communicate effectively with all stakeholders
