Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering specialized instruction for students with mild intellectual disabilities in an elementary school setting
  • Designing and implementing lessons that align with each student’s IEP goals and objectives
  • Adapting grade-level curriculum and providing targeted instruction in core academic areas
  • Monitoring student progress and maintaining thorough documentation of achievements and areas for growth
  • Applying accommodations, modifications, and other instructional supports as outlined in individual IEPs
  • Collaborating closely with general education staff, administrators, and related service providers to promote student success
  • Actively participating in IEP meetings to help set and review individualized goals
  • Fostering a positive, inclusive, and well-structured classroom atmosphere
  • Communicating regularly with families to share progress and provide support

Qualifications:

  • Valid South Carolina Special Education (SPED) certification
  • Experience teaching or working with elementary students, preferably in a special education or core replacement setting
  • Strong understanding of mild intellectual disabilities and experience adapting instruction to diverse learning needs
  • Familiarity with implementing IEPs, accommodations, and modifications
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational abilities
  • Collaborative spirit and commitment to building positive relationships with students and colleagues
