These contract roles support students in self-contained and resource classrooms, serving K-12 students with a variety of needs, including cognitive and emotional impairments. You’ll work collaboratively onsite, supported by dedicated teams of paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and mentors, ensuring every child receives a high-quality education.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current Michigan Teacher Certificate, preferably with endorsements for Learning Disabilities (LD), Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), or MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) plus another area of Special Education.
  • Solid knowledge of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and related IDEA federal regulations.
  • Experience—or a genuine desire—to work in an urban district, demonstrating understanding of challenges faced by urban children and appropriate resources to support students and families.
  • Ability to provide official university transcripts before placement.
  • Comfortable with onsite, in-person instruction (positions are not virtual).
  • Strong communication, classroom management, and collaboration skills.
  • Flexibility to adjust caseloads as needs shift.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Instruct and support K-12 students in self-contained or resource classrooms, with a maximum of 22 students per class.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and other school staff.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations regarding special education.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment.
