Step into a rewarding role supporting young learners as a Special Education Teacher for grades 2-5 in a contract position near Derby, CT. This opportunity lets you make a tangible impact on the lives of exceptional students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). Work closely with a dedicated team of five paraeducators in a collaborative learning center environment, currently serving a caseload of nine students, with the potential to grow by a student or two.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teaching certification
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Special Education or a related field
- Demonstrated experience or strong interest working with elementary-aged students with ASD and/or SLD
- Ability to develop and implement IEPs tailored to individual student needs
- Strong behavioral management and communication skills
- Collaborative mindset for working with paraeducators, families, and related service providers
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, adapt, and deliver individualized instruction in alignment with IEP goals
- Partner with paraeducators to provide targeted support and promote student independence
- Collect and utilize data to assess student progress and inform instruction
- Communicate regularly with families and professionals to coordinate educational plans and support
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages growth and learning
- Stay current with best practices in special education and professional development
