Special Ed Teacher - Des Plaines, Illinois

An exciting contract position is available for an experienced Special Education Teacher to serve 1st and 2nd graders at the elementary level. This opportunity involves delivering cross-categorical instructional programming, primarily supporting students with a range of academic, behavioral, communication, adaptive, and functional needs—including a higher proportion identified with autism.

As a key figure in a collaborative classroom environment, you’ll tailor instruction to align with grade-level standards while prioritizing individualized IEP goals and specialized intervention plans. The role emphasizes the integration of structured schedules, visual and sensory supports, behavioral and social-emotional interventions, and daily coordination with related service providers. Additional support comes from a dedicated program aide and 1:1 staff as needed, ensuring every student’s needs are met thoroughly.

Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

• Valid Illinois Special Education Teaching License required
• Experience teaching in cross-categorical or autism support settings preferred
• Background working with IEP development and implementation
• Strong skills in differentiated instruction and meeting diverse learning needs
• Ability to apply behavioral and communication interventions
• Strong collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams
• Effective communicator with students, staff, and families
