Step into a pivotal role supporting middle school learners as a Special Education Teacher, providing invaluable resource and co-taught services to 8th-grade students. This contract opportunity is structured with half-days at two closely located middle school campuses, ensuring variety and engagement in your daily routine.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering specialized instruction in both co-taught and small resource class settings, working with groups of approximately 8-10 students.
- Collaborating closely with general education teachers to develop and implement effective accommodations and modifications for diverse learners.
- Managing a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, ensuring commitment to all staff duties from 7:20 am to 2:50 pm (or 3:05 pm on Wednesdays), with a dedicated lunch break each day.
- Supporting students’ IEP goals through data-driven instruction, progress monitoring, and individualized support strategies.
- Fostering a positive, inclusive environment where all students are challenged and empowered to meet their learning objectives.
- Attending meetings, parent conferences, and team collaborations as part of a highly engaged special education department.
- Participating in new teacher orientation if onboarded between August 5-11, with contract start date August 17, 2026 and expected to run through May 28, 2027.
Preferred qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience as a Special Education Teacher, especially within resource and co-teaching models at the middle school level.
- Current licensure or eligibility for LBSI (Learning Behavior Specialist I) in Illinois.
- Confidence operating independently, with strong instructional, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
