Special Education Teacher in Des Plaines, IL

Make an impact supporting high school students as a Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time opportunity offers a dynamic contract role, supporting learners with mild to moderate learning disabilities or ASD within a welcoming and collaborative environment. You’ll enjoy a consistent schedule, working Monday through Friday from 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM, with lunch and dedicated planning periods included in your day.

You’ll have the unique opportunity to express your teaching preference: choose between co-teaching with supportive colleagues or leading your own self-contained classroom. Caseloads will be tailored as much as possible to maximize your effectiveness—projected at 20-30 students total, with the potential to decrease as the year progresses.

Desired Background and Skills:

• Valid LBS1 endorsement required, qualified to teach grades 9-12
• Demonstrated skill in developing and managing IEPs
• Experience with students with mild-moderate learning disabilities or ASD
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to support a positive, inclusive classroom climate
• Bilingual and high school teaching experience preferred, but not required

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and monitor effective IEPs tailored to student needs
• Adapt instruction and curriculum to student learning styles and goals
• Collaborate with general education staff and other special education professionals
• Foster student independence, self-advocacy, and academic growth
• Maintain regular communication with families and team members
• Document progress, accommodations, and supports with accuracy and detail
