We're seeking experienced special education teachers for remote positions serving students in Michigan. This virtual role allows you to deliver specialized instruction from home while supporting students with diverse learning needs through comprehensive online platforms.
Position Overview
This remote special education position typically involves 37.5 hours per week, serving students across elementary and middle school grade levels. You'll manage a caseload of approximately 45-55 students, providing individualized instruction tailored to each student's IEP goals. The virtual format allows for flexible scheduling while maintaining consistent student engagement and progress monitoring.
Your caseload will include students requiring support across multiple categories, including specific learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional behavioral disorders, and other health impairments. You'll utilize digital learning tools and video conferencing platforms to create an engaging, accessible learning environment.
Primary Responsibilities
As a virtual special education teacher, you'll develop and implement individualized education programs that address each student's unique strengths and challenges. Your day-to-day work includes delivering direct instruction through live video sessions, creating modified curriculum materials, and adapting general education content to meet IEP accommodations.
You'll conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress toward IEP goals, maintaining detailed documentation of interventions and outcomes. Collaboration is essential—you'll work closely with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure coordinated support. Virtual parent-teacher conferences and IEP meetings will be regular components of your role.
Managing a virtual classroom requires strong organizational skills and technological proficiency. You'll create structured routines that help students stay engaged during online sessions while providing the individualized attention they need to succeed.
Required Qualifications
Michigan requires active special education teacher licensure for this position. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Special Education or a related field and have completed at least two years of teaching experience in school settings.
Virtual teaching experience is highly valuable for this role. You should be comfortable navigating learning management systems, video conferencing tools, and digital assessment platforms. Reliable internet connectivity and a dedicated workspace are essential for maintaining professional virtual instruction.
