Special Education Teacher - Detroit, Michigan

An exciting contract opportunity is available near Detroit, MI for a Special Education Teacher who is passionate about working with elementary students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role is specifically designed for an experienced educator who holds both elementary certification and ASD certification, ready to excel in a supportive, collaborative environment.

You’ll be leading a K-1 ACT 18 ASD classroom with a manageable class size of 7-8 students. Three dedicated paraprofessionals are assigned to the room, ensuring that you have ample hands-on help. The classroom and students benefit from a well-rounded, multidisciplinary support team—speech therapists, school social workers, occupational therapy, and an ASD coach—all working collaboratively to drive student success. You’ll also have a newly-adopted curriculum at your fingertips, providing a solid framework to engage and support your students’ learning and growth.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with both Elementary and ASD endorsements
• Prior experience teaching in a self-contained or ASD classroom (K-1 preferred)
• Strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies for students with autism
• Ability to differentiate instruction and tailor lessons based on student needs
• Collaborative mindset, eager to work with paras and support staff
• Comfortable utilizing a new curriculum and adapting to district initiatives
• Effective communicator with students, parents, and multidisciplinary team members
