Special Education Teacher | Detroit, Michigan

Bring your expertise as a Special Education Teacher to a vibrant elementary setting just outside Detroit, MI! This rewarding contract position is tailored for professionals who thrive in collaborative environments and are passionate about supporting young learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). You’ll be working in a K-1 ACT 18 ASD classroom with a maximum of eight students, equipped with a strong support team that includes paraprofessionals, a dedicated speech-language pathologist, social worker, occupational therapist, and an ASD coach.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• Valid Elementary and ASD teaching certifications
• Experience or strong interest in early childhood and elementary special education
• Knowledge of or willingness to implement new curriculum and best practices for ASD
• Positive, flexible attitude with strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to create an inclusive, engaging classroom environment benefiting students with diverse needs

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver individualized instruction aligned with IEP goals using a school-approved curriculum
• Foster a structured and nurturing atmosphere for K-1 ASD students
• Collaborate actively with paras and the multidisciplinary support team to maximize student success
• Participate in team meetings, parent conferences, and ongoing professional development
• Track student progress and maintain meticulous documentation in compliance with district and state guidelines
