Step into a rewarding, full-time contract role supporting a vibrant group of young learners in a specialized classroom environment! An opportunity awaits for a Special Education Teacher passionate about making a lasting difference in the lives of 1st through 3rd grade students. This classroom, serving a small group of seven students, is multi-mixed with a primary focus on students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It is thoughtfully structured with substantial teacher assistant support, allowing you to individualize instruction and provide hands-on guidance where it matters most.
You’ll maintain a consistent Monday to Thursday schedule from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, along with a shorter Friday ending at 2:00 PM, for a total of 36 hours each week. As a travel candidate, comfortable, furnished housing in a school-owned house or apartment is available, making your transition into the area seamless and stress-free.
Desired Experience and Skills:
- Certified as a Special Education Teacher (credentials required prior to start)
- Experience working with elementary-age students, preferably in grades 1-3
- Familiarity or expertise in supporting non-verbal and/or ASD students
- Ability to foster a nurturing, inclusive, and structured classroom environment
- Skilled at collaborating effectively with teacher assistants and related service providers
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to each student’s IEP
- Utilize assistive technology and alternative communication methods
- Monitor and document student progress, implementing data-driven adjustments
- Collaborate with support staff to provide personalized support
- Communicate regularly with families and other educational professionals
