Step into a rewarding role supporting elementary-aged students as a special education professional in a self-contained classroom setting near Easton and Centreville, MD. This full-time contract position runs from August 17th, 2026, through June 18th, 2027, and offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on learners with diverse needs in a supportive school environment.
In this position, you’ll work 32 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with variable start and end times ranging between 7:30 AM and 3:45 PM, based on campus requirements. Each day consists of 7 instructional hours, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The role focuses on delivering high-quality special education services, utilizing a variety of evidence-based interventions such as Read 180, iSPIRE, the Bridges Program, and Orton-Gillingham approaches tailored to student IEPs and developmental needs.
Qualifications:
- Active Maryland Special Education (SPED) Teacher certification required
- Experience teaching in a self-contained setting at the elementary level preferred
- Proficient with IEP development, implementation, and evaluation
- Familiarity with interventions like Read 180, iSPIRE, Orton-Gillingham, and the Bridges Program is highly desirable
- Collaborative spirit for working with multidisciplinary teams and families
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and differentiated instruction to elementary students with diverse learning needs
- Implement and adapt evidence-based interventions based on each student’s IEP
- Collaborate on IEP development and attend IEP meetings (typically held Tuesdays)
- Track student progress and maintain diligent records
- Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
- Engage in ongoing communication with families and support staff
