Special Education Teacher - Elgin, IL

Make a meaningful impact supporting elementary students by providing specialized instruction in a collaborative, supportive environment. This contract role is ideal for an experienced Special Education Teacher eager to guide a small group of students in a self-contained 4th and 5th grade classroom. The position is set in a school near Elgin, IL, where elementary self-contained classrooms are grouped together to foster shared resources and strong professional support.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid Special Education Teaching certification (LBSI or equivalent)
• Background working in self-contained classroom settings
• Experience with elementary-aged students, particularly 4th and 5th graders
• Familiarity with Unique or STAR curriculum is highly preferred
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities
• Commitment to serving diverse learners with varying needs

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver instruction, adapt curriculum, and modify materials for a classroom of 7-8 students with diverse special education needs
• Collaborate with fellow educators and support staff within a building dedicated to self-contained classrooms
• Maintain an inclusive, nurturing, and organized classroom environment
• Track student progress, develop IEPs, and participate in meetings with families and specialists
• Attend staff contract hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:05 am - 3:35 pm; Wednesday 8:05 am - 3:50 pm
• Engage in professional development, including potential participation in a new teacher orientation before the official start date
