Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid Special Education teaching certification/license required
  • Experience working with high school-aged students, especially those on the autism spectrum, preferred
  • Understanding of IEP development and implementation
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with staff, families, and students
  • Compassion, patience, and adaptability when supporting diverse learning needs
  • Willingness to assist with personal care, including occasional toileting duties
  • Ability to maintain a positive, encouraging classroom environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and adapt lesson plans to meet the unique needs of students with autism
  • Create individualized learning strategies based on student IEPs
  • Monitor and document student progress, communicating regularly with parents and support staff
  • Integrate life skills, social-emotional learning, and academics into daily instruction
  • Foster independence and self-advocacy in students
  • Participate in school meetings, trainings, and collaborative problem-solving sessions
  • Provide assistance with toileting and other personal care needs as required, always with respect and dignity
