Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Special Education teaching certification/license required
- Experience working with high school-aged students, especially those on the autism spectrum, preferred
- Understanding of IEP development and implementation
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with staff, families, and students
- Compassion, patience, and adaptability when supporting diverse learning needs
- Willingness to assist with personal care, including occasional toileting duties
- Ability to maintain a positive, encouraging classroom environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and adapt lesson plans to meet the unique needs of students with autism
- Create individualized learning strategies based on student IEPs
- Monitor and document student progress, communicating regularly with parents and support staff
- Integrate life skills, social-emotional learning, and academics into daily instruction
- Foster independence and self-advocacy in students
- Participate in school meetings, trainings, and collaborative problem-solving sessions
- Provide assistance with toileting and other personal care needs as required, always with respect and dignity
