Make a meaningful impact supporting elementary students as a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained classroom for K-5 learners with autism and significant behavioral needs. This rewarding contract opportunity runs from October through December and is conveniently located near Essex Junction, VT. You’ll lead a small group of 5 students, each of whom benefits from dedicated 1:1 paraprofessional support, allowing you to focus on delivering individualized instruction and behavioral interventions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Valid state licensure or certification as a Special Education Teacher, or eligibility to obtain
  • Experience with autism spectrum disorder and significant behavioral challenges preferred
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills, especially in a classroom supported by paraprofessionals
  • Effective communication and documentation abilities
  • Capacity to create and adapt Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver instruction tailored to individual student needs, aligned with IEP goals
  • Implement behavioral support plans and utilize evidence-based strategies for classroom management
  • Collaborate with a dedicated team of paraprofessionals to maximize student outcomes
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families, related service providers, and school staff
  • Accurately track student progress and document improvements or emerging needs
  • Foster a supportive, safe, and structured classroom environment
