A contract opportunity awaits for an experienced Special Education Teacher to step in for a maternity leave this upcoming new school year. Starting August 21st and running through early January, you’ll support K-4 students with diverse needs in a collaborative, engaged elementary environment. The first day with students is August 26th, giving you a few days to settle in and plan.
You’ll be working with a manageable caseload of 10-15 students (average of 12 last year), serving children with a range of learning differences, including specific learning disabilities, other health impairments, and students on the autism spectrum. The role follows a traditional, full-time school schedule of 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, with a dedicated 40-minute prep period each day to ensure you have ample time for planning and documentation.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
- Valid certification in Special Education (or eligibility in Vermont)
- Prior experience with K-4 students, supporting varied disabilities
- Structured learning expertise strongly preferred—background with Orton Gillingham or Wilson programs would be an asset
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues and families
- Ability to manage a dynamic, supportive classroom environment
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement IEPs in accordance with student needs
- Deliver individualized and small group instruction
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families
- Progress monitor and document student growth
- Maintain organized records and support a positive school culture
