As a Special Education Teacher, you will work primarily with second-grade students, several of whom are nonverbal, providing meaningful instruction and creating a nurturing environment that fosters individual growth and success.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Current state licensure in Special Education for K-2 (or eligible for licensure)
- Experience teaching in a self-contained classroom, preferably with students with multiple disabilities (MH)
- Proficiency supporting both verbal and nonverbal students, using alternative communication methods or devices
- Knowledge of individualized education program (IEP) development and implementation
- Strong skills in classroom management, adapting curriculum, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams
- Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic approach to teaching young children with moderate to intensive needs
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction, both academic and social-emotional, tailored to the unique needs and IEP goals of each student
- Utilize evidence-based strategies and assistive technology to facilitate communication and engagement, especially for nonverbal learners
- Monitor progress and document daily student growth, adjusting plans as needed
- Collaborate closely with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and families to ensure comprehensive support
- Maintain a structured, positive classroom environment that encourages safety, respect, and confidence for every child
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and IEP conferences as required
