Key Qualifications:

• Active Michigan Teacher Certificate with at least one Special Education endorsement: preferred Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), or Learning Disabilities (LD). MDE Early Childhood (ZA) plus a special education area is also welcomed.
• Experience with students who have cognitive impairments, learning disabilities, and/or emotional impairments.
• Understanding of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education and related IDEA federal regulations.
• Ability to discuss challenges facing urban youth and the resources that support student and family success.
• Submission of official university transcripts prior to final selection.
• Comfortable working exclusively onsite within an urban school setting.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Facilitate individualized and group instruction for up to 22 students in a self-contained or resource classroom.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet varied student needs.
• Collaborate daily with an extensive special education team, classroom and one-on-one paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and LSS department support.
• Participate in ongoing training from the Academics team and connect with an assigned mentor for professional growth.
• Maintain documentation compliant with MARSE and IDEA requirements.
