Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students through a fulfilling contract position in special education. Multiple openings are now available for certified special education teachers to serve in self-contained and resource classrooms for the 2026-2027 school year (August 17 - June 11). Opportunities span K-12 cognitive impairment positions, middle school emotional impairment roles, as well as resource settings in urban schools. Class sizes are capped at 22, fostering supportive, focused environments for both students and staff.

Candidates should be prepared to work full-time onsite (35 hours per week) and demonstrate compassion and effectiveness supporting children and families in an urban setting. Current openings require dedication to inclusive education, adaptability to varying caseloads, and readiness to collaborate with a multidisciplinary support team, including paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and mentors.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in Special Education
  • Endorsements in Learning Disabilities (LD), Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), or MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) with at least one other special education area
  • Experience or strong understanding of MARSE (Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education) and IDEA regulations
  • Previous experience with diverse populations, especially in urban districts, is highly valued
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and collaboration
  • Willingness to provide official university transcripts before onboarding

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction in self-contained and resource classrooms
  • Modify curriculum and accommodate student needs based on IEPs
  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff development, and team collaboration
  • Engage proactively with students, families, and colleagues on resources and supports
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal special education regulations
