Step into an impactful role shaping the academic and personal growth of students as a dedicated Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Multiple positions are available serving K-12 self-contained and resource classrooms. You’ll join a collaborative school-based special education team committed to supporting learners with cognitive and learning impairments in an urban setting.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with an endorsement in Learning Disabilities, Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitively Impaired (CI), or MDE Early Childhood (ZA) plus another Special Education area
  • Experience or endorsement working with K-12 students with cognitive/learning impairments preferred
  • Knowledge of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and related IDEA Federal Regulations
  • Strong understanding of challenges faced by urban youth and appropriate resources for students and families
  • Commitment to onsite instruction and active team collaboration (remote work and VOCO are not available)
  • Ability to provide a copy of official university transcripts as part of the credentialing process

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver exceptional instruction in self-contained or resource classroom settings, supporting diverse learners (caseloads up to 22 students)
  • Adapt curriculum and learning strategies to meet individual education plan (IEP) goals
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, one-on-one aides, behavior specialists, and school-wide teams to foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment
  • Engage with families and leverage resources to support student success in and beyond the classroom
  • Actively participate in professional development and mentorship programs and contribute to ongoing school-wide special education initiatives
