Make a difference in the lives of students by supporting an Intensive Resource Room serving learners with moderate to severe needs. This is an exciting contract-to-hire opportunity for the 2025/2026 school year, working with a small group of 6 students in grades 1st through 6th. Each child receives tailored support, with disabilities ranging from Down syndrome to non-verbal autism. Most students use AAC devices for communication and benefit from the consistent presence of dedicated paraprofessionals and collaborative service providers.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teacher certification
- Strong understanding of moderate to severe disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders
- Experience with AAC devices and alternative communication systems
- Background in developing and implementing IEPs
- Ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, and social workers
- Compassion, patience, and dedication to individualized student growth
- Prior experience in an intensive or self-contained special education setting is highly valued
Responsibilities and Core Duties:
- Provide daily instruction and individualized support to students in grades 1st-6th within the Intensive Resource Room
- Design and implement personalized lesson plans and therapeutic strategies, aligning with each student’s IEP
- Facilitate the use of AAC devices and other assistive technology
- Foster a supportive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment
- Coordinate and communicate with paraprofessionals and related service providers
- Monitor student progress, conduct assessments, and maintain accurate documentation
