Make a positive difference in the lives of students by providing essential support and instruction in an Intensive Resource Room for the upcoming 25/26 school year. This contract-to-hire opportunity allows you to work closely with a dedicated team, supporting a classroom of six students in grades 1st through 6th, each with a range of moderate to severe needs. The students, whose needs include Down syndrome and non-verbal autism, benefit from the use of AAC devices to communicate and spend most of their day within this specialized environment. You will work alongside paraprofessionals, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and social workers, all focused on providing a comprehensive and compassionate educational experience.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Special Education teaching license or eligibility in the state
- Experience or strong interest in supporting students with moderate to severe disabilities
- Familiarity with AAC devices and alternative communication strategies
- Comfortable adapting lessons and managing classroom routines with paraprofessional support
- Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities with related service providers
- Commitment to fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and safe learning environment
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans tailored to specific student needs
- Utilize AAC devices and other assistive technology to maximize communication and engagement
- Monitor students’ progress and adjust strategies as appropriate
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals and related service providers for integrated support
- Support students with daily routines and self-care, ensuring dignity and independence
- Foster strong communication with families and document student outcomes effectively
