Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting elementary-aged students in a self-contained autism program, located near Fredericksburg, VA. As a contract Special Education Teacher, you will play a key role in fostering growth, learning, and independence for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a structured and nurturing elementary classroom setting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and carrying out Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs
  • Delivering direct instruction using evidence-based strategies, aligned with state standards and IEP goals
  • Implementing positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) as well as behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
  • Collaborating closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavior specialists, and other related service providers
  • Supervising and providing guidance to paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom
  • Collecting and analyzing student progress data and maintaining accurate compliance documentation
  • Fostering communication, social interaction, self-regulation, and personal independence among students
  • Ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive environment that addresses a range of communication, behavioral, and sensory needs

Desired experience and qualifications:

  • Active Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility for licensure
  • Proven ability to develop and implement IEPs, with solid knowledge of compliance and documentation requirements
  • Strong classroom management and positive behavior support skills
  • Collaborative mindset for working with multidisciplinary teams and families
  • Previous experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder is highly valued
  • Familiarity with structured teaching, visual schedules, social stories, ABA principles, and crisis prevention/de-escalation is a plus
