Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting elementary-aged students in a self-contained autism program, located near Fredericksburg, VA. As a contract Special Education Teacher, you will play a key role in fostering growth, learning, and independence for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a structured and nurturing elementary classroom setting.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and carrying out Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs
- Delivering direct instruction using evidence-based strategies, aligned with state standards and IEP goals
- Implementing positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) as well as behavior intervention plans (BIPs)
- Collaborating closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, behavior specialists, and other related service providers
- Supervising and providing guidance to paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom
- Collecting and analyzing student progress data and maintaining accurate compliance documentation
- Fostering communication, social interaction, self-regulation, and personal independence among students
- Ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive environment that addresses a range of communication, behavioral, and sensory needs
Desired experience and qualifications:
- Active Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility for licensure
- Proven ability to develop and implement IEPs, with solid knowledge of compliance and documentation requirements
- Strong classroom management and positive behavior support skills
- Collaborative mindset for working with multidisciplinary teams and families
- Previous experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder is highly valued
- Familiarity with structured teaching, visual schedules, social stories, ABA principles, and crisis prevention/de-escalation is a plus
