Special Education Teacher in Gansevoort, NY

With small, self-contained classrooms (8:1:3 ratio) and just 78 students across K-12, you'll be empowered to provide individualized attention and foster growth in students with level 3 autism, severe cognitive disabilities, significant behavioral challenges, and a majority who use alternative and non-verbal communication.

Your days will run from 7:45 am to 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday. While planning periods are not built into the day, approval is granted for teachers to work up to 40 hours per week by coming in early or staying late to catch up on crucial paperwork and IEP planning. The assignment begins with two weeks of comprehensive onboarding training, running through June 2027.

Key Qualifications:

• Current NY State certification in Special Education (Students with Disabilities), or actively working toward licensure; the school is flexible and supportive for recent graduates or those transferring out-of-state credentials.
• Experience working with students who have level 3 autism, severe behavioral challenges, alternative communication methods, or significant medical needs is strongly preferred.
• Skill in modifying curricula and implementing alternative assessments is highly valued.
• Comfort working across K-12 levels; placement will align with your experience and student needs.
