Experience a rewarding opportunity supporting upper school students in North Austin as a Special Education Teacher. This contract position is ideal for educators passionate about inclusion and growth in a collaborative setting. Serving a caseload of 25–30 students in grades 6–12, you will teach primarily Integrated Humanities/English Language Arts and Social/Life Skills in a large, resource inclusion classroom. There is a partitioned area for mathematics instruction during part of the day, and paraprofessionals assist by guiding students into class.
Enjoy a thoughtfully structured environment: the curriculum is provided, you’ll have a regular planning period, and a weekly session to collaborate with fellow teachers. Life Skills instruction involves a small group of three students across multiple periods. You’ll also offer dedicated support to one ninth-grade student working at a unique math level, helping foster a cooperative teaching environment.
Qualifications:
- Valid Texas Department of Education Licensure in Special Education and Generalist/Core 6–12
- Proven Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) experience, actively participating in meetings
- Strong ability to collaborate and plan with other teachers
- Adherence to a professional dress code (work attire, natural hair color, limited piercings)
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality instruction in Humanities, ELA, and Social/Life Skills to resource inclusion students
- Participate in ARD meetings and contribute meaningful input to ensure student success
- Collaborate with colleagues during weekly and regular planning sessions
- Support paraprofessionals and fellow teachers, especially during mathematics instruction and life skills blocks
