Step into a meaningful contract opportunity supporting K-8 students as the Intensive Learning Community Lead Teacher at a single site near Glorieta, NM. This position is designed for a highly skilled special education professional devoted to making a powerful impact on children with significant disabilities who require substantial, individualized supports.
In this role, you’ll guide a self-contained classroom of up to 10 students—primarily those on the autism spectrum—many of whom utilize augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and need structured routines and compassionate instruction. Partner with and lead a dedicated team of 2-3 classroom aides, ensuring a warm, supportive, and consistent learning environment from the first day of the school year in August through early June.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Valid Special Education Teacher credentials and experience in special education settings
- Demonstrated expertise supporting children with moderate to severe disabilities, especially autism
- Proficiency with AAC devices and adaptive communication strategies
- Prior experience working with aides or supervising support staff preferred
- Comfort with structured, routine-based classroom management
- Flexibility, patience, and a passion for nurturing student growth in academics, communication, social skills, behavior, and daily living
- Knowledge of IEP development, progress monitoring, and individualized instruction
