Key Qualifications:

  • Possess valid Maryland Special Education (SPED) Certification
  • Experience or interest in self-contained elementary settings
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn interventions such as Read 180, iSPIRE, Bridges Program, and Orton-Gillingham
  • Ability to develop individualized curriculum, monitor goals, and maintain up-to-date IEPs
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities

Major Responsibilities:

  • Teach elementary students in a self-contained SPED classroom (caseload starts at 5, grows to 9-10 with paraprofessional support)
  • Design and implement lessons based on the PEALS framework for emotional and academic learning support
  • Monitor progress and regularly update individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals and use a range of interventions tailored to each student’s needs
  • Participate in IEP meetings, predominantly on Tuesdays
