Step into a rewarding opportunity as a Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year, making a difference in the lives of elementary or middle-grade students. This full-time, contract role offers a supportive environment where your skills and passion will be valued. Work hours are 7:40 a.m. – 3:20 p.m., Monday through Friday, including a 30-minute paid lunch and a one-hour paid planning period. The assignment spans from August 12, 2026, through May 21, 2027, totaling approximately 39 hours per week.
You will deliver instruction in math, reading, science, and social studies across a combination of self-contained, push-in, and pull-out settings. Flexibility is key, as the grade level (3rd or 8th grade) will be determined closer to the start of the school year.
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement, PK–22
- Solid experience in behavior management; comfort working with students who have behavior disorders is highly preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in independently writing IEPs, including goal development and completion without reliance on a team approach
- Willingness to serve in either the 3rd or 8th grade based on the district’s needs
Responsibilities:
- Provide engaging, individualized instruction for students with a range of abilities and needs
- Manage behaviors effectively to create a positive and productive classroom environment
- Write and implement comprehensive IEPs
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and support staff to support student growth
This role offers an hourly compensation between $37 and $55, and some candidates may be eligible for travel stipends.
