Grades 6 - 8 Special Education Teacher - Hartford, CT

A Special Education teaching opportunity is available for a long-term substitute at a middle school serving grades 6 through 8 in Hartford, CT. This contract position requires delivering comprehensive instruction in math, reading, writing, life skills, and social skills to students with autism, supporting their individualized learning plans in a structured school environment. The schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM, with planning periods provided. Responsibilities also include participating in PPT meetings and writing IEPs to ensure tailored educational support.

Key Qualifications:

• Valid Connecticut Special Education license for grades 6-8
• Experience working specifically with middle school students with autism
• Strong skills in delivering instruction in core academic subjects and life skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with educational teams and families during PPT meetings
• Proficiency in writing clear and compliant IEPs

Location: Hartford, CT (Middle School)

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct instruction in math, reading, writing, and social/life skills to middle school students on the autism spectrum
• Plan lessons that meet IEP goals and accommodate diverse learning needs
• Attend and actively participate in PPT meetings
• Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date IEP documentation
• Support students in social skill development within the school setting

This is a contract role for the current school year with an immediate start date and flexible end date, depending on the duration of the incumbent’s leave.
