A Special Education teaching opportunity is available for a long-term substitute at a middle school serving grades 6 through 8 in Hartford, CT. This contract position requires delivering comprehensive instruction in math, reading, writing, life skills, and social skills to students with autism, supporting their individualized learning plans in a structured school environment. The schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM, with planning periods provided. Responsibilities also include participating in PPT meetings and writing IEPs to ensure tailored educational support.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Connecticut Special Education license for grades 6-8
- Experience working specifically with middle school students with autism
- Strong skills in delivering instruction in core academic subjects and life skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educational teams and families during PPT meetings
- Proficiency in writing clear and compliant IEPs
Location: Hartford, CT (Middle School)
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction in math, reading, writing, and social/life skills to middle school students on the autism spectrum
- Plan lessons that meet IEP goals and accommodate diverse learning needs
- Attend and actively participate in PPT meetings
- Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date IEP documentation
- Support students in social skill development within the school setting
This is a contract role for the current school year with an immediate start date and flexible end date, depending on the duration of the incumbent’s leave.
