Make a real difference in the lives of young adults by supporting their transition to independence in a specialized educational setting. This contract opportunity focuses on students aged 18–22 participating in a Transition Program designed to help them master real-world skills, including job site training and life essentials like cooking, cleaning, managing bank accounts, and applying for jobs. You’ll collaborate with dedicated job coaches and paraprofessionals to guide progress, oversee goals, and facilitate meaningful growth. The overall responsibilities lean more toward administrative tasks than direct instruction, providing a unique opportunity to take on a leadership role in shaping individual pathways to adult life.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:45 AM to 3:30 PM, with select Wednesdays having an early release at 1:15 PM.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Active Connecticut Special Education Endorsement
  • At least 2 years of recent teaching experience in special education
  • Direct experience working with young adults and transition programs
  • Familiarity with Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and next-step transition resources for individuals over 22 highly valued
  • Background working with the NextUp transition curriculum preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and monitor students’ progress in life and job-readiness skills
  • Update and maintain individual goals in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
  • Coordinate with job coaches and paraprofessionals for consistent support
  • Participate in a limited number of IEP meetings (approximately 7–10 annually)
  • Ensure student advancement in self-advocacy and independence
