Adaptive Elementary Special Education Teacher

A full-time Elementary Special Education Teacher is needed for the 2026-2027 school year in Hickory, North Carolina. This school-based position will support elementary students with significant and diverse learning needs through individualized instruction, IEP implementation, progress monitoring, and collaboration with the educational team.

Candidates must hold an active North Carolina Adapted Curriculum Exceptional Children (EC) teaching license. Previous experience working with students in an adapted curriculum or specialized classroom setting is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop, implement, and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Provide specialized instruction based on individual student needs and IEP goals
• Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and teaching strategies to support a range of learning and developmental needs
• Support students in developing academic, communication, behavioral, social, and functional skills
• Monitor student progress and use data to guide instructional decisions
• Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and families
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to educational planning and goal development
• Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and student records
• Implement appropriate classroom and behavior support strategies
• Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment

QUALIFICATIONS

• Active North Carolina Adapted Curriculum Exceptional Children (EC) teaching license required
• Previous elementary Special Education or adapted curriculum experience preferred
• Experience supporting students with significant or diverse learning needs preferred
• Strong understanding of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
• Knowledge of individualized instruction and curriculum modification
• Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills
• Ability to work effectively with related service providers and classroom support staff
