Special Education Teacher - Horseheads, New York

Embark on a meaningful contract opportunity supporting high school students as a Special Education Teacher in the Bath/Hornell, NY area. This onsite role focuses on delivering exceptional education to 11th and 12th graders in an HS ED classroom and may involve stepping in as either a Teacher’s Assistant or a long-term substitute, providing crucial guidance to students with special needs. You’ll collaborate closely with school staff to foster a supportive and effective learning environment over approximately 12 weeks, starting September 8, 2026.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Current New York State Teaching License, with high school endorsement.
• All required certifications specific to ED (Emotional Disabilities) classroom settings.
• Experience teaching or assisting in special education, ideally at the high school level.
• Adaptability and commitment to create inclusive, engaging learning experiences.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach with colleagues and school personnel.
• Ability to manage classroom dynamics and develop individualized plans as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learner needs within an 11th/12th grade classroom.
• Foster a safe, positive, and structured environment, encouraging academic and social-emotional growth.
• Collaborate effectively with supporting staff, including paraprofessionals and related service providers.
• Provide classroom instruction and support, transitioning as needed between Teacher’s Assistant and substitute teaching responsibilities.
• Monitor student progress and contribute to IEP processes and documentation.

This position offers a steady, consistent weekly schedule of 32.5 hours in a supportive school environment. The role is fully onsite, providing opportunities to build relationships and make a direct impact on students’ daily lives.
