Special Education Teacher in Hyattsville, MD

Key Qualifications:

• Active Special Education Teacher certification
• Experience working with high school students, preferably those on the autism spectrum
• Knowledge of SPED best practices and curriculum adaptation
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Willingness to perform toileting or personal care duties as needed
• Ability to work onsite full-time

Primary Duties:

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored for students with autism
• Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere
• Adapt lesson plans and instructional materials to meet diverse student needs
• Collaborate with fellow educators, therapists, and families to support each student’s goals
• Monitor student progress and document both academic and behavioral outcomes
• Encourage independence and self-advocacy in students
• Address personal care needs, including toileting, with empathy and respect to promote dignity
