Special Education Teacher in Independence, MO

Step into a meaningful role supporting high school students in an Essential Life Skills program. This onsite contract position offers the opportunity to work closely with a small group of 7-9 students, helping them achieve important personal milestones and develop life-long skills. The assignment runs from now through late May 2027, with a consistent weekly schedule of 37.5 hours.

In this setting, you’ll become an integral part of a supportive academic community, utilizing your special education expertise to build trust, foster growth, and deliver impactful instruction tailored to each student’s unique abilities.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Valid Special Education Teaching Certification
• Experience with high school-aged students preferred
• Background in life skills and essential skills curriculums strongly valued
• Ability to adapt and individualize instruction for a diverse range of learners
• Strong classroom management skills and collaborative mindset
• Excellent communication abilities with students, colleagues, and families

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement individualized lesson plans for a high school life skills caseload
• Foster positive relationships that encourage student participation and independence
• Track and report student progress, making instructional adjustments as needed
• Work closely with support staff, administration, and families to create a collaborative learning environment
• Utilize appropriate accommodations and modifications for each student
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom
