At the elementary level, you’ll work within a Structured Teaching and Learning Room (STLR) program—an innovative, self-contained environment that serves students with Autism and functional communication needs. Your caseload will range from 10 to 13 students, providing the chance for individualized instruction and care.
In the middle school role, you’ll co-teach in a Supported Education setting, collaborating closely with fellow educators while guiding a maximum of 13 students. This environment values teamwork, differentiation, and creative problem-solving as you help students achieve their academic and social goals.
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Current licensure to teach Special Education in Illinois
- Experience working with students with Autism and/or functional communication needs is preferred
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation
- Effective collaboration and communication skills for co-teaching dynamic
- Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and adapt lesson plans to meet the unique needs of each student
- Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and support staff
- Implement evidence-based strategies for communication, behavioral, and academic growth
- Monitor and document student progress while maintaining compliance with IEP requirements
- Foster a supportive and safe classroom culture that celebrates each child’s strengths
