Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting K-8 students in a self-contained classroom setting, beginning August 3, 2026, and continuing through June 4, 2027. This full-time, contract role (37.5 hours per week) is perfect for an experienced Special Education Teacher ready to take on a leadership position in an Intensive Learning Community. As the lead teacher, you'll guide a team of 2-3 dedicated aides, shaping an environment where up to 10 students with significant disabilities can thrive.
Your classroom will support children with autism and other substantial needs in communication, behavior, academics, and daily living skills. You'll collaborate closely with your aides to create and maintain a highly structured, consistent environment tailored to each child, some of whom may rely on AAC devices and require significant levels of patience, flexibility, and encouragement.
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Active Special Education Teacher certification (or willingness to obtain for assignment)
- Skill working with students with significant intellectual or developmental disabilities
- Previous leadership or team coordination experience is a plus
- Familiarity with classroom management strategies, structured routines, and individualized supports
- Ability to implement AAC systems and adapt communication approaches
- Commitment to fostering growth in social skills, adaptive behaviors, and academic development
Role Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver individualized lesson plans and behavioral interventions
- Supervise and mentor 2-3 classroom aides, delegating responsibilities and supporting professional growth
