Multiple opportunities exist for Cognitive Impairment (K-12), Resource (Learning Disabilities K-12, with EI & CI accepted), and Emotional Impairment (Middle School) classrooms, with maximum caseloads of 22. Your classroom will benefit from robust in-school support, including paraprofessionals and behavior specialists, as well as resources for collaboration and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate, preferably with endorsements for Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitive Impairment (CI), Learning Disabilities (LD), or Early Childhood Special Education (ZA) and an additional Special Education area
  • Ability to provide official university transcripts prior to placement consideration
  • Understanding of MARSE and IDEA federal guidelines
  • Effective communication, adaptability, and strong advocacy for students with diverse needs
  • Experience or genuine commitment to working in urban school districts
  • Willingness to discuss the unique challenges and resources relevant to urban students and their families

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver individualized instruction in self-contained/resource classrooms
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in line with district, state, and federal requirements
  • Collaborate with colleagues, paraprofessionals, and behavior specialists to support student success
  • Engage with families, advocating and communicating resources for diverse student needs
  • Participate in ongoing training, mentoring, and schoolwide special education teamwork
