Special Education Teacher in Lapeer, MI

Key Qualifications:

• Michigan Teacher Certificate with Learning Disabilities (LD) endorsement required; preference for additional “Emotional Impairment” (EI), “Cognitively Impaired” (CI), or MDE ZA (Early Childhood) plus another Special Education area.
• Experience or deep knowledge of MARSE (Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education) and relevant IDEA federal regulations.
• Confidence working in an urban district and understanding challenges and resources relevant to urban communities.
• Willingness to provide an official copy of university transcripts.
• Ability to adapt to varied caseloads and collaborate within school-based special education teams.
• Strong communication and advocacy skills for diverse student needs.

What You'll Do:

• Teach and manage a classroom or resource group of students with special educational needs, tailoring instruction to cognitive, learning, or emotional needs.
• Collaborate proactively with classroom paraprofessionals, 1:1 paras, behavior specialists, and support staff.
• Participate in mentor programs, ongoing professional development, and training initiatives from the Academics team.
• Foster an inclusive, supportive classroom atmosphere where every child can succeed.
• Engage with school leadership, families, and community resources to ensure holistic support for students.
