Multiple openings are available for Special Education Teachers in self-contained and resource classroom settings serving K-12 students. Classrooms are capped at 22 students, with some positions focusing on cognitive impairments and others supporting students with learning disabilities. This on-site assignment offers the chance to make a positive impact in an urban district, with robust school support systems in place.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Learning Disabilities (LD) endorsement required; EI (Emotional Impairment), CI (Cognitive Impairment), or MDE endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) strongly preferred
- Experience with self-contained or resource classrooms, and a passion for serving urban student populations
- Familiarity with Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and related IDEA federal regulations
- Ability to discuss challenges facing urban children and resources available to their families
- Official university transcripts required before consideration
- Commitment to full-time, onsite work (not a virtual/remote position)
- Comfortable coordinating with a multidisciplinary school-based team
- Previous experience supporting students with IEPs in diverse classroom settings is highly regarded
Responsibilities:
- Deliver differentiated instruction for K-12 students with cognitive or learning disabilities
- Maintain and update IEPs, provide academic assessments, and collaborate with classroom paras, 1:1 aides, and behavior specialists
- Foster a positive, inclusive educational environment adapted to each student's needs
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training provided by the academic and special education departments
- Participate actively with the broader special education team and mentor support
