This contract position focuses on teaching math to 6th–8th graders within a special education program designed for students with a range of learning disabilities, including low to high-functioning autism. Located near Laurel, MD, you’ll play a vital role in fostering both academic and social growth in a supportive school environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Maryland Special Education Certification for grades 6–12.
- Maryland Math Certification for grades 6–12, or current math certification with eligibility for special education certification.
- Experience working with middle school students, preferably within special education settings.
- Coursework or practice supporting learners with autism and diverse learning needs.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
Role Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver math instruction aligned to 6th–8th grade curriculum and IEP goals.
- Differentiate lessons for varied learning styles and abilities, adapting for individual needs.
- Partner closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff.
- Gather data on student progress, documenting achievement and adapting strategies as needed.
- Attend IEP meetings, track compliance, and maintain ongoing communication with families.
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student growth and confidence.
What You’ll Experience:
- Full-time schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 am–4:15 pm, for a total of 40 hours a week.
- Twelve-month compensation schedule, ensuring steady income throughout the year.
- Competitive salary, ranging from $62,000 to $85,000, determined by experience and education level.
