Role Overview

This remote teaching position typically encompasses 35-37.5 hours weekly, serving a student caseload of approximately 50-55 learners across elementary and middle grade levels. The virtual structure provides scheduling flexibility while requiring consistent availability during school hours for live instruction, student support, and team collaboration.

Your students will present with varied disabilities requiring differentiated support. The caseload commonly includes students with learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disabilities, developmental cognitive disabilities, and other health impairments. You'll design and deliver instruction meeting each student's individualized learning goals while addressing their unique challenges and building on their strengths.

Essential Duties

Developing meaningful IEPs and translating goals into effective virtual instruction represents your core responsibility. You'll create lesson plans incorporating evidence-based practices, adapt general curriculum materials for accessibility, and deliver engaging online lessons through synchronous video sessions. Asynchronous learning components may supplement live instruction depending on student needs.

Progress monitoring requires systematic data collection and analysis. You'll implement curriculum-based measurements, document behavioral observations, evaluate assignment completion and accuracy, and prepare detailed progress reports demonstrating growth toward IEP goals. This documentation supports IEP revisions and provides evidence of educational benefit.

Collaboration spans multiple stakeholders in virtual environments. You'll co-teach with general education teachers through virtual platforms, coordinate with related service providers, conduct remote parent conferences, and participate in IEP meetings via video conference. Strong communication skills help bridge the physical distance and maintain effective partnerships.

Managing virtual learning environments demands technological competence and adaptability. You'll troubleshoot platform issues, guide students and families through technical challenges, utilize digital tools for instruction and assessment, and maintain organized digital filing systems for student records and IEP documentation.

Required Credentials

Kentucky special education teacher certification must be current and valid. A Master's degree is mandatory, with special education or related fields preferred. Candidates must demonstrate two or more years of teaching experience in school settings working with students with disabilities.

Virtual teaching requires technological proficiency and appropriate home infrastructure. You need dependable high-speed internet, functioning computer equipment with camera and microphone, and a quiet workspace suitable for confidential discussions and professional video conferences. Familiarity with learning management systems and virtual collaboration tools is beneficial.
