Special Education Teacher - Lockport, Illinois

Step into a rewarding contract role as a Junior High Special Education teacher, where you'll make an impact supporting students in grades 7 and 8. This long-term substitute assignment spans from August 17, 2026, through Thanksgiving Break at the end of November, offering a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully within a collaborative educational environment.

As the Special Education teacher, you will co-teach Science alongside a dedicated General Education teacher, guiding and supporting students within inclusive classrooms. Your expertise will help ensure that every learner receives the personalized attention and modifications they need to thrive academically and socially.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Valid LBS1 Professional Educator License (PEL) required
• Previous experience as a Special Education teacher strongly preferred
• Background in co-teaching or collaborative educational settings a plus
• Strong understanding of accommodations, modifications, and IEP implementation
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families

Key Responsibilities:

• Co-teach 7th and 8th grade Science, working closely with the General Education teacher
• Provide specialized instruction and adaptation of coursework as needed
• Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals
• Support the classroom environment to encourage participation and engagement
• Collaborate with staff to create tailored strategies for diverse learners
• Maintain consistent communication with families and support services

This contract position follows school staff hours of 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., offering you a balanced schedule with afternoons free.
