Special Education Teacher | Locust Grove, Virginia

As a Special Education Teacher for an elementary self-contained autism program, you'll provide highly individualized instruction and behavioral support—helping each student achieve their fullest potential.

Key Qualifications:

• Current Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility to obtain one.
• Direct experience developing and implementing IEPs for students with disabilities.
• Understanding of special education law, compliance, and required documentation.
• Excellent skills in classroom management and positive behavior support.
• Strong ability to collaborate with instructional teams, related service providers, and families.
• Previous experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder encouraged, but not required.
• Familiarity with ABA strategies, structured teaching, visual supports, and functional communication systems is a plus.
• Crisis prevention/de-escalation training is advantageous.

Responsibilities:

• Craft and execute individualized lesson plans in accordance with state standards and IEP goals.
• Deliver evidence-based instruction tailored for students on the autism spectrum.
• Utilize positive behavior interventions and implement individualized behavior plans.
• Partner actively with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and support staff.
• Provide guidance and direction to paraprofessionals in the classroom.
• Monitor student progress, collect and analyze data, and maintain compliance with all documentation.
• Foster social interaction, communication, independence, and self-regulation in students.
• Maintain a safe, engaging, and supportive classroom for students with complex needs.
